Diego Capel has the potential to be a world class winger in years to come, Capel has all the attributes required play in this position, he is very pacey, good on the ball and is a very accomplished crosser. After initially starting out at Barcelona, Capel came through the ranks at Sevilla and made his first senior appearance aged 16 in a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in October 2004. In seasons to come Capel became a regular for Sevilla B until he eventually held down a first team place in 2007-08, he scored his first goal against former club Barcelona in a 1-1 draw on February 9 2008, and he scored against the same opponents in the Spanish Cup tie a month earlier. He has since gone on to score on three more occasions for Sevilla. Capel has represented Spain at every level from U17 up to seniors and played a pivotal role in helping Spain win the 2006 U19 European Championships. Capel has made two caps for the senior side; he showed his creative class by laying two goals in a 3-0 victory over Denmark on August 20 2008. The array of midfield talent that Spain has restricted Capel’s chances, however he is sure to be part of the squad that travels to South Africa for next year’s World Cup. Capel has also attracted the interest of Premier League clubs, in June 2008 it was reported that Tottenham were willing to pay £12.5 million for his services. Although Capel is highly talented he lacks aggression in his play and is weak in the tackle, Capel could also improve his teamwork as he struggles to track opponents on occasions. He also lacks composure in front of goal; this is underlined by the fact that the winger has only scored 5 goals for Sevilla in 70 first team appearances.
