Danny Wilson has long been touted as the first major player to break through the Murray Park youth system at Ibrox and finally this season he has made the breakthrough into the Rangers First team and has impressed greatly alongside John Fleck and has since been touted as the Future Captain of Rangers and Scotland. However recently he has turned down new and improved terms with the Glasgow club which has left his future in jeoprady with the club as he seeks to improve his ability and also his wages by moving down to England.

Danny Wilson's primary position is in central defence however he can also operate in the left full back position. This is mainly down to his ability to pass the ball which is a great advantage and something very rare in a centre back anywhere but in scotland it is almost a unique quality for a centre back. He has impressed alongside david weir in the heart of the defence with his aerial ability very much on show, however his main strength is his reading of the game and ability to snuff out danger from the opposition attack. Mentality and temprement are vital for the modern day footballer but even more so amongst defenders due to the need to concentrate for the full ninety. Danny has immense concentration and decision making which enables him to be one step ahead of the attackers and allows him the time and space to thwart them but also to control the game from the back. In terms of playing with the ball at his feet he has the ability to pick out long diagonals to launch counter attacks and set his attackers on their way. Commentators have described it as a " cultured left foot" and whilst maybe not to the same standard as david beckham or andrea pirlo he, more often that not , finds his man. His marking and tackling ability have improved greatly, which he demonstated in the champions league by nulifying Pavel Pogrebnyak against stuttgart, and frederic Kanoute in the finally game agaisnt sevilla. for a 17 year old the experienced gained in the Champions league has been vital to his development and has made him a much more accomplished defender despite his young age. Despite being strong defensively Danny does offer little when going forward which is why he is more suited to playing at the heart of the defence. he can pass however his first touch can sometimes be found wanting along with his crossing ability however for a centre back this is not the most important aspect of his game. Aerially and along the ground Danny is very good and is not easily out stripped ot outmuscled, however his work rate can seem a little lazy at times which can occasionally present the opposition with an opportunity however he is a young lad and this will likely improve as he matures especially with the guidance of Walter Smith.

If, as is widely speculated, Danny Wilson does decide to move on he would suit a team where he would play along side a solid no nonsence defender where Danny would cover and snuff out the danger. As such He would be perfect alongside Richard Dunne at Aston Villa or even Michael Turner at Sunderland, or on a much more ambitious scale replacing rio Ferdinand at United. Yes this may prove a step too far at the current moment but there is no doubt that Danny Wilson will play to a high level in the Premiership and will be the best defender that Scotland has produced in a long long time.
