David De Gea is a Spanish goalkeeper and currently plays for Atletico Madrid in La Liga. He has been dubbed the next Edwin Van Der Sar due to his agility, height and reactions. His current deal at Atletico expires in 2011 and Manchester United are interested in bringing him to England.
David De Gea is a product of the Atletico Madrid youth academy and spent his first couple of seasons as a professional playing with the reserves. He first came to the attention of the world during the u17 world cup where he kept goal for the Spanish side turning in some impressive performances and helping them to the runner up spot. As well as helping Spain to the u17 European championship in 2007 he went on to make 15 appearances for the u19 side and 2 u21 appearances.
In 2009 David was the 3rd Choice goalkeeper for Atletico and was handed his debut in September where he replaced Roberto in a 2-0 defeat to Porto in the Champions League. Three days after this he was given his first league start against Real Zaragoza where he gave away a penalty in the 19th minute which he saved. He has gone on to make 8 appearances for the first team turning in quality performances against the likes of Barcelona & Valencia.
David has the key attributes to be a world class keeper, he is extremely agile and has outstanding reflexes. Due to his height he is very good in the air and is a very good shot stopper. His positioning, decision making and communication is excellent and is very competent at distributing the ball to the outfield players.
For such a young goalkeeper he has incredible mental strength, he has handled the pressures of playing in the Atletico senior side excellently and has immense confidence in himself. He can keep calm in tough situations and has no problems directing the defence in front of him.
One area David needs to improve is his rushing out skills.
