Sergio Gontán Gallardo, or Keko, joined Atlético Madrid's youth team in 2004, and has been at the club ever since. He gradually rose through the ranks here, before ultimately playing for Atlético's B team in 2008. Keko eventually made his full proffesional debut for Atlético in September 2009, aged just 17, as a second half substitute against Racing Santander. In the second half of the 2009-10 season, he went out on loan to fellow La Liga side Real Valladolid. Keko made 13 appearances during his time in Valladolid, but was unable to save the club from relegation. He has played an important part in the various tiers of Spain's youth system, culminating in him captaining Spain Under 19s to the UEFA Under 19 Championship in France. He scored an excellent goal against England in the semi-final of the tournament, charging through the English defence before coolly slotting home.

Keko plays primarily on the right, but is an offensive midfielder who looks comfortable playing anywhere across midfield. He is a youngster who displays an intelligence and positional ability of a footballer far beyond his years, and plays an influential role for Spain's under 19 side, acting as a playmaker supporting Pacheco and Rochina. If his performances in France are anything to go by, hopefully Keko will be given the opportunity to make an impact at Atlético Madrid over the next couple of years.
